Showing employees that at the end they can do far more than they think they can do. If that’s possible at work, this can be done also at home and anywhere in life. And vice versa.

‘Running is done by animals’ and a ‘Tick on the Challenges Bucket list’. That’s how the story started when I called for signing up for the NYC Marathon 2019 on our Intranet. Never expected so many fantastic colleagues would join this great experience. ‘Once in a lifetime’, it was meant to be like that. Actually, I promised that to myself, because I hate running and people made tools for moving quickly.

The story of my life: when the goal is reached, I see the next one. Never heard about it: the Big Six. Why bumping into that after being a finisher of one-of-six. I thought that crazy idea would pass away immediately, being too busy next business year as a CEO expanding in Europe.

And then Covid-19 covered up all countermeasure to even more absurd ideas. Running worked out as the only Covid-proof sports one could do all year around. So, doing some exercises, supporting structure, keeping your mind fit, were adding to the fact that I kept on running… Staying home in peace, keeping positive at work. When the world stood completely still, I kept running to stay mentally and physically healthy. How paradoxical fate can be.

That’s what I wish for those sporty Northwavers who are seeking structure and move a little more a few times a week. The structure of a challenging goal. I want to give employees the opportunity to run a marathon at least once in a lifetime. So Northwave as a company supports and sponsors them by facilitating a ‘Marathon Program’ for employees next 6 years. Once a year a ‘Major Marathon’ can be run if one is interested. Integrated in our employee beneficial culture.

It’s just one of the many ways to show leadership, by inspiring. To Northwavers and environment. And just one of the programs making Northwave a special place to work. Showing employees at the end they can do far more than they think they can do. If that’s possible at work, this can be done also at home and anywhere in life. And vice versa.

It still doesn’t mean there is no big efforts to make to achieve them personally. But much is achievable with the right support, attitude, dedication, perseverance, and the right passionate team. Ever wanted to visit Berlin, Chicago, London, Boston, Tokyo, and New York with your colleagues? It really feels phenomenal to celebrate together a great achievement as a team and individually.

As a bonus you get even more weekly structure, stay fit, healthy and have a lot of oxygen to think bright and work adequately. Or be even a better partner, mother or father at home with loads of energy. In terms of Northwave it supports our mission: giving Client a Safe Digital Journey.
